The Flanders Scientific CM171 is a lightweight 17.3″ Multi-Format reference monitor with 3G/Dual-Link/HD/SD-SDI, Component, Composite, & DVI-I Inputs. This unit features full 12-bit video processing and a native 1920×1080 resolution 10-bit panel capable of reproducing over 1.073 billion colors on screen. The CM171 offers support for virtually any signal format from NTSC/PAL to HD and 2K, including advanced 12-bit, 4:4:4, and XYZ signal formats.

This unit features many broadcast monitor basics like a Blue Only Mode, Monochrome Mode, Markers, Safety Areas, H/V Delay, and Tally Lights. Like all Flanders Scientific monitors the CM171 also comes standard with advanced features like 16 Selectable Scopes, Focus Assist, Time Code Display, Audio Disembedding, Artifact Free Pixel Zoom, Adjustable Exposure Check, On-screen Alarms, and Advanced Pixel Level Measurement. This unit also provides additional advanced capabilities including live side-by-side monitoring of 2 inputs and dual LUT import capabilities (both DIT LUTs and calibration LUTs).

CFE2 Color Fidelity Engine

Color space management is handled by our CFE2 Color Fidelity Engine. This advanced second generation 3D LUT processor ensures a high degree of accuracy in any color space mode. Select between Rec 709, EBU, SMPTE-C, DCI P3 Emulation, Native Wide Gamut, and Custom User Generated color spaces. CFE2 supports custom calibration LUTs as well as DIT LUTs that do not require profiling of the panel with a probe before import (e.g. BlackMagic Design Film Mode to Rec 709 LUT, LogC to Rec 709 LUT, etc.)

In addition to the CFE2 capabilities the monitor comes equipped with instantly selectable gamma, peak luminance, and color temperature presets, adding to the flexibility of this unit and making it suitable for a wide variety of applications and environments. Like all FSI monitors the CM171 comes pre-calibrated from the factory and free recalibration is always available for customers that would like to send their units in to one of FSI’s service departments. In addition to this free recalibration option the CM171 also features a wide variety of manual calibration toggles, interfaces with FSI’s Direct Connect Automatic Alignment System, and is also compatible with advanced color management systems like LightIllusion’s LightSpace CMS or SpectraCal’s CalMan allowing you to choose the color management option that works best for you.

Live Side by Side Monitoring (Picture and Picture)

The CM171 is equipped with 2 x 3Gbps SDI (SMPTE 425M-AB) & Dual-Link SDI (SMPTE 372M) inputs, provide support for advanced formats including 4:4:4 RGB, 4:4:4 YCbCr, and 4:4:4 XYZ signals. With support of both Level A and Level B 3Gbps SDI the CM171 is compatible with virtually all 3Gbps SDI sources and provides many advanced viewing modes for multiplexed (2x SMPTE 292M) Level B signals as explained here. The unique live side-by-side monitoring feature allows for mixed formats, mixed frame rates, and even mixed input types to be viewed together.

At just 6.4 lbs and 24 Watts power consumption the CM171 is incredibly well suited as a field monitor. The monitor can be powered via AC (100~240VAC) or DC (12V 4 PIN XLR) connectors. Optional accessories like the FSI Solutions CH17 (Carrying Case with Integrated Hood) and MM20 (VESA to C-Stand Adaptor) provide additional versatility for field use. The CM171 also comes standard with a basic desktop stand and rack mount ears (7RU) making it suitable for both desktop and rack mount applications.

Video Data Analyzer

This function provides you with realtime decimal or hexadecimal readout of video data at the pixel level and importantly can be used for both active picture and horizontal / vertical blanking data analysis. See page 13 of our updated user manual for full details on everything you can do with this powerful new feature.

DIT LUTs

Store up to 16 different 3D DIT LUTs at a time on CFE2 & CFE3 equipped monitors. Instantly toggle between custom LUTs by simply pressing the up and down buttons without having to access the menu. A brief onscreen popup will indicate which LUT is active.
